Check the front page of the local newspaper this morning, Harry Day has been found guilty in court of sexual abuse of young boys in his care. He has got a prison sentance of 13 years. After the jury deliberated for only 6 hours.
Why should this be cause for concern for our readers in Barking & Dagenham. Reason being that young people from our borough were sent to his Citizens Guild centre in Norfolk, George Shaw was Chairman of the Guilds management committee.
And most importantly of all is the statements made by the young people themselves who when questioned under oath after having gone through the gruelling questioning while giving evidence, were asked "Why they had not come forward before now?". We understand that all of the young people involved stated that they did not come forward because "Harry had influential friends".
We certainly hope that by now having the courage to give their evidence, and we do appreciate it must have been very difficult and painful for them, these young men are comforted somewhat by the 13 years in prison handed out to Harry Day, and may he rot in jail.
It would be interesting to hear from George Shaw on this subject -- if he can be find of course.
ReplyDeleteI agree with anon @ 9.13 that man should be hanging his head with shame. But he wont be of course as with everything else he has done over the last 30 years.
ReplyDeleteFrom bullying and intimidation to being the cause of at least 1 person having to go into hospital to recover.
Then of course there are the hatchet jobs he has engineered against members of the party who did no more than speak their mind, and ended up being kicked out of the party.

This is a disgraceful and baseless slur by association. if I were George Shaw, I would contact my brief. This is actionable.
ReplyDeleteWhy is posting the truth actionable?
ReplyDeleteAre you telling us that these young men did not say that Harry Day had influential friends?
Are you telling us that George Shaw was not Chair of the Management committee?

NOBODY has accused George Shaw of doing anything wrong re; the Harry Day case. Was He one of the "influential friends"? It is fact that he made several trips to Norfolk for holidays.
ReplyDeleteHowever if my name had been associated at all with a proven paedophile, I would want to make sure that people knew I was innocent, not guilty by association.
Where are the denials or proof from George Shaw? It is fact that he was Chair of the Trustees, and I find it hard to believe that George Shaw knew nothing of what was going on. And if he didn't he should have done.
We will propbably never know the truth, but it certainly leaves a nasty taste in the mouth, and many people who respected George Shaw (myself included) are very dissillusioned.
Whether or not George Shaw has grounds for legal action, it will not change attitudes to someone who was involved with a peodophile.
We can reassure Tony Crosland that our posting was checked over by our legal team and their professional view is that there are no actionable statements in there at all.
ReplyDeletePerhaps, we could suggest that you are taking that standpoint because of your own knowledge of George Shaw.
The stench of corruption gathers around Barking at the moment, and every way you look at it there appears to be links into Barking CLP and the controlling group known as the North Street mafia.
ReplyDeleteI read the local paper this week the same as I do every week, read the extensive article on Harry Day and I know only too well the links between George Shaw and the Guild, how he and his mates would book the Mayors car for their annual official visit, until that got stopped and they had to make their own way there.
I am not saying at all that G Shaw was tied up in what Day was doing, but as Chairman he should have known what was going on.
And then there is another bit of corruption hovering in the air, again reported in the local paper, the arrests of 2 Chief officers of large voluntary groups in the borough for fraud.
Their cases are still to be heard, so no judgements to be made there, but, once again strong links to the North Street mafia with one of these Chief officers, I understand that this Chief Officer is the employer of at least 2 of the mafia, and 1 of those 2 also sits on the Board of a very large statutory health provider with this Chief Officer.
Now its fair to say that these links could be seen as very tenuous, but, after many weeks, months of hearing and reading about the so called corrupt methods that the North Street mafia has been using it does make you wonder dont it.

I love the idea that a blog run by a load of rejects hoo carnt spel has a 'legal team'. Presumably this legal team consists of an Ally McBeal box set.
ReplyDeleteNever watched the programme, but as we have said before you are way off base in your thinking when it comes to who is running this blog.
ReplyDeleteI am getting a bit fed up with these comments from the 'dead' well I thought Tony Crosland died in '77.
ReplyDeleteSo unless he has internet access on the other side it must be a north street fool doing a bit of literal posing.
Well take it from me chum you dont have the flair, the wit, or the inteligence that Tony Crosland had.
And if he were alive today he would be directing the pest controllers into North Street to rid Barking of the infestation of rats.
Party member and trade unionist
Well at least you know who Tony Crosland was - the jokers who run this blog got him confused with Dick Crossman. As for your deduction that I am not THE Tony Crosland because he died in 77', I can only salute your Columbo-like skills.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that George Shaw had his own caravan on the YCG campsite? he would often stay there for weekends but after the son of the city farm manager at barking tried to blow the whistle about what harry was doing to him Shaw was never seen again. the farm manager lost her job the same week, it took another 18 years for anybody to listen to the farm managers son, in that time another 13 children from B&D were abused by day
